Morocco Hotels 2025: Riads, Luxury Resorts & Hidden Gems

Morocco Hotels: Where Tradition Meets Modern Comfort

When it comes to visiting Morocco, your choice of accommodation can completely transform your travel experience. From ancient riads tucked away in narrow medina streets to world-class resorts overlooking the Atlantic, Morocco’s hotels are more than just a place to sleep - they’re a gateway to the country’s soul.

The Charm of Moroccan Riads

If you’ve never stayed in a riad, imagine this: you step through a modest wooden door, and suddenly you’re in a peaceful courtyard filled with the scent of orange blossoms and the gentle sound of a fountain. The walls are adorned with ellige tiles, and the rooms open to the courtyard like a warm embrace.

During my last visit to Marrakech, I stayed at a family-owned riad in the heart of the medina. Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace, with fresh msemen (Moroccan pancakes) and mint tea still steaming in the cool morning air. That memory alone was worth the trip.

Coastal Retreats for Beach Lovers

If the sound of waves is your idea of relaxation, Morocco’s coastline offers stunning stays.

  • Essaouira: Boutique hotels here often have ocean-view terraces and breezy interiors inspired by the city’s blue and-white charm.
  • Agadir: Home to larger resorts ideal for families, with private beaches, pools, and endless sunshine.
  • This is a summary of a story I lived in a hotel in Agadir"During my visit to Agadir, I tried to gain a better understanding of the city's tourism landscape. I chose to compare two five-star hotels, one owned by a well known French company and the other by a Gulf national. Both offer all the necessary accommodations and recreation facilities, meeting international standards of quality and service. The first hotel is frequented by groups of European tourists, particularly French tourists, the majority, if not all, of whom are retired (i.e., the elderly). They come as part of an organized group trip through a French travel agency, which determines the duration and itinerary in advance. The cost of a full week at this hotel, including accommodation and meals, is estimated at 5,000 dirhams per person. Tourists can also pay for other services, such as massages.
  • Regarding the low cost of accommodation (down to 5,000 dirhams per week) at such a hotel, the hotel manager explains that this is primarily due to the recent decline in tourist demand in Agadir and the decline in demand. The French company is also trying to fill this gap by attracting this segment of tourists, namely retirees, known for their limited resources and low costs. The company is capitalizing on the large number of tourists in these groups. For example, this week, the hotel reached a record high, with all rooms booked, with approximately 360 tourists, most of whom were French.
  • The advantage of these tourists is that they all come with their spouses. The agency plans outings for them to neighboring regions or cities, according to their desires, such as Essaouira, Tiznit, or Marrakesh. These tourists do not contribute much to the economic and social life of the city or its facilities. They do not buy local products, nor do they go to restaurants or go shopping. Their only goal is to enjoy the sun."

Tips for Choosing the Right Moroccan Hotel

  • Location matters: Staying inside the medina gives you authenticity, but can be noisier. Outside, you’ll find quieter surroundings and easier access by car.
  • Check for rooftop terraces: They’re perfect for sunsets and stargazing.
  • Read recent reviews: Hotels can change management or service quality, so up to date feedback is crucial.

In general

Choosing the right hotel in Morocco is about more than comfort - it’s about immersing yourself in the country’s culture. Whether you’re sipping tea in a riad courtyard, watching the sun set over the Sahara, or waking up to the Atlantic breeze, your stay becomes part of your Moroccan story.
